!±8± Who Invented the MP3 Player?

This history of MP3 players is an interesting subject, but who invented the MP3 player? Popular MP3 technology was developed by the German company Fraunhofer-Gesellshaft in 1987. The specific inventors of this project were Bernhard Grill, Karl-Heinz Brandenburg, Ernest Eberlein, Thomas Sporer, and Bernd Kurten. From then on, the MP3 players were used by a variety of companies who manufacturer audio MP3 devices with different designs, features and of course, names.

The MP3 player project was almost completely terminated in 1988 because of the many failed attempts to get the player working correctly. Finally in 1989, the group got it right and received a German patent In the United States. It took seven years to complete this project and was ready for distribution in 1996.

One of the earliest creators of the digital audio player was Briton Kane Kramer. Along with Kramers input, the MP3 player was mass produced for the first time in 1997 with the name of the MPMan player. Once this technology was produced, Diamond Multimedia came out with the Rio PMP300 player which received drastic popularity. Compaq then introduced their own hard drive based digital MP3 player in 1988. Today, one of the most popular forms of MP3 players known as iPods came from the Apple Computer company.

When the MP3 technology first hit the shelves, they became very popular and soon became the main source of music. This is because of the many benefits of the MP3 player such as being able to hold thousands of songs that are able to run for hours on end. They are typically small enough to be held in a pocket and can be worn in public in order to have your music available anytime you'd like. They are battery powered so no having to plug in your device like most stereo systems.

You may be wondering what is an MP3 player exactly and how does it work? First of all, MP3 stands for MPEG Audio Layer III and it was designed in order to hold compression music that proves to have no sound or quality loss when playing. MP3 is a part of MPEG which stands for Motion Pictures Expert Group. These are what display audio and video using compression.

Currently, the most popular and well-known name brand of MP3 technology is the iPhone and iPod Touch, both created by the Apple Company. These feature connectivity to the World Wide Web and downloadable software. MP3 players are the most popular form of music today.

History of the Schecter Guitar

The Schecter Guitar Research repair shop was opened in 1976 by David Schecter in Van Nuys, California. This is where it all began for the future guitar manufacturing company. The repair shop manufactured replacement guitar parts and eventually supplied everything you would need to build a guitar but did not build any of their own guitars at that time. Their main customers were custom repair shops and the two big guitar-manufacturing companies, Gibson and Fender.

Finally in 1979, Schecter started making their own guitars to sell to the public. The designs were based on Fender guitar designs and were very expensive to purchase because of the high quality parts and the small amount they made available. Also around this time, Pete Townshend from The Who got a Schecter guitar from his guitar tech and immediately liked it. In fact he liked the sound so much that it ended up being his main touring guitar.

Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits was the next high profile artist to discover the Schecter guitar. He ended up with many Schecter guitars over the years and one even sold at an auction for ,000 in 2004.

In 1983, Schecter ran out of resources and could no longer meet the demand for their guitar. Schecter ended up selling the company to a group of Texas investors who were well aware of the great reputation of the Schecter name and the top quality of their guitars. Knowing this, the new owners expected to make a profit by expanding the operation and moving the company to Dallas, Texas. This unfortunately turned out to be a bad move because most of the original employees wouldn't move to Texas and this eventually led to poor design and quality decisions by the new staff. The guitars that were being produced at this time were being mass-produced and getting a bad reputation for their poor quality.

Even though they were going through this rough time, Schecter did manage to get an amazing guitarist by the name of Yngwie Malmsteen to endorse their guitars. They also released several new models including the Telecaster style guitar that Pete Townshend was using called the Saturn. Their other popular model was the Scorcher, which was based on the Stratocaster design. Even with these new designs and making their guitars more affordable, sales were very poor due to the lack of quality.

In 1987, the company was unloaded to a Japanese entrepreneur by the name of Hisatake Shibuya. Hisatake was no stranger to music and guitars; he also owned ESP Guitars and the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. He moved Schecter back to California and soon brought the reputation of the company back to the way it used to be. The company went back to their old ways of producing high quality, high priced custom guitars. The guitars were also made in fewer numbers and made available to a smaller amount of dealers.

In 1996, Hisatake hired Michael Ciravolo as president of Schecter. Michael was an experienced musician and had been an employee at a guitar shop owned by Hisatake. Ciravolo ended up bringing in some high profile musicians to endorse Schecter guitars including Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots) and Sean Yseult (White Zombie).

Michael Ciravolo also disliked the Fender style designs, so he developed new designs in the Avenger, Hellcat and Tempest models. He also wanted to produce a more affordable guitar and opened up a factory in Inchon, South Korea to build them. This time though, Michael made sure that they were high quality guitars as well as being mass-produced. The parts were made in the South Korean factory and then shipped to their U.S. shop for the guitars to be assembled. This led to the creation of the famous Diamond Series Schecter Guitars.

The Schecter Guitar Company is still going strong today and is loved by mostly the Heavy Metal, Hard Rock and Alternative styles of music. Some of the most famous guitarists past and present that have used Schecter guitars are Pete Townshend (The Who), Prince, Yngwie Malmsteen, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), Shaun Morgan (Seether), Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots), Jerry Horton (Papa Roach), Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance (Avenged Sevenfold), Paul Raven (Killing Joke and Ministry) and Sean Yseult (White Zombie).

Currently Schecter guitars are a high end quality instrument that are beautiful and slick with a high end price to match. Since Schecter is best known for their custom made guitars which can only be ordered through authorized dealers with restrictions, Schecter Guitars have been given the reputation of being a rare breed. And rare but popular, they are.

Still a relatively new company with a dim past, Schecter guitars was founded by David Schecter in 1976. Located in Van Nuys, California, the now star blessed company started out by producing replacement parts for Gibson and Fender guitars including brass pic guards and his innovative tapped pickups. Tapped pickups are an awesome addition to a guitar because they allow you to have a double coil pickup in a single coil package. With it you also have the ability to turn the 2nd single coil pickup on and off to produce that tantalizing humbucker sound.

Schecter was also one of the first guitar part manufacturers to offer "black chrome" coloring for the guitar bodies which was ever growing in popularity amongst metal musicians.

The success that parts manufacturing brought to Schecter allowed the company to expand and relocate to Dallas, Texas but things soon soured. When mass producing Schecter guitars, their sound and quality were negatively affected and the company's reputation was damaged.

In 1991 Schecter was bought by the Los Angeles Musician's Institute and EPS Guitars though David remained involved. They relocated the company again, back to California where the future of Schecter guitars seemed brighter. And though EPS and Schecter wound up being operated by differing companies as they evolved apart in the industry, Schecter continued making custom guitars and began rebuilding its reputation by offering inexpensive guitars for beginners and consumers on a budget.

Some time later Schecter invited Pete Townshend to build a custom 'Telecaster' with two humbucker pickups for the company to release. This excellent marketing tool along with Mark Knopfler's endorsement boosted Schecters once dying reputation and put Schecter back into manufacturing. Since then, these high-end and quite popular guitars have also attracted the endorsement of Cure members Robert Smith and Simon Gallup as well as building a Robert Smith model. This is something the guitar manufacturer became known for amongst Cure fans.

Who Uses Schecters

Serious musicians love a gorgeous guitar with custom parts and a wailin' paint job. And both those features attribute directly to the wide variety of musicians that use Schecter guitars proving just how versatile these machines are. From hard rock to metal, punk, industrial, goth, pop and almost everything in between, no one can refuse a Schecter.
